THE RESULTS

The creation of our web-based app meant that for the first time, malt extract Homebrewers were now able to create their own recipes.

This creativity helps engage and educate Homebrewers on the process of brewing and how different ingredients affect the resulting beer.

Since our launch at the UK’s Homebrewing convention, BrewCon, we have established a large community of Homebrewers engaged in our communications, as well as achieving our objective of establishing Muntons as the go-to brand for Homebrewing.

Andrew Leedham - Muntons Senior Marketing Manager

CHALLENGE & STRATEGY

Now trading for 100 years, Muntons have become a leading supplier of brewing and distilling malts and malted ingredients to the food & drinks industry worldwide.

As part of their new digital engagement roadmap for Homebrew, Muntons wanted to create 2 key digital applications for their Homebrew customers, 1. a beer recipe designer and 2. a suggested recipes library.

Our challenge was to turn a spreadsheet of brewing data into a front-end digital experience that is engaging and easy-to-use for the Homebrew user and a back end experience which is easy to manage for the Muntons team.

5 months later we delivered both digital products to a great reception at Brew Con 2021.

The recipe designer enables users to choose their favourite style of beer, customise the ABV, flavour and aroma and then generate a recipe detailing the ingredients, equipment and method needed to brew their chosen beer.

The suggested recipes library gives home brewers access to a huge range of pre-designed recipes with all the details they need to create the brews and the ability to customise these recipes using the recipe designer.

In the Umbraco back-end, the Muntons team have full autonomy over every aspect of the application including the ability to add and remove beer styles, aromas, ABV values and flavours so the App can quickly and efficiently be kept up to date.

The application is now the flagship digital product driving Muntons Homebrew engagement with several more phased developments in the pipeline.

DELIVERABLES

- Homebrew research
- Aroma mapping
- ABV mapping
- Flavour mapping
- Colour mapping
- Product customisation mapping
- Front-end Umbraco design & development
- Back-end Umbraco design & development
